Where the student room prices in the rest of the Netherlands are rising rapidly, they remain the same in Leeuwarden and Maastricht. An average student room in the Netherlands costs more than 400 euros per month on average.
In the past year, the rental rates for student rooms have increased by 4.7 percent. In 2017 the average price was 385 euros per month. This was 403 euros per month in the first half of 2018.
That reports online housing platform Kamernet, one of the largest providers of rooms in the Netherlands. These are rooms with a surface area of up to 35 square meters, with a rental price up to and including 750 euros per month, including gas, water and electricity.
But where it become more expensive in the rest of the Netherlands it gets cheaper in Leeuwarden.
Only in Leeuwarden and Maastricht have the student rooms become cheaper this year: 1.4 percent and 2.7 percent respectively. In Leeuwarden the rent in 2017 was on average 341 euros per month, in the first half of 2018 this was 336 euros per month.
With this 336 euro Leeuwarden is also almost the cheapest student city in the Netherlands. Only in Tilburg (321 euros), Wageningen (313 euros) and Enschede (302 euros) are rooms cheaper.
